Miss Austen's Choice

  • Southern Illinois University (map)

December, 1802. Aspiring novelist, Jane Austen, is no longer of marriageable age, at the ripe old age of twenty-six. Yet, she still dreams of romance, as she edits her parody of Gothic Romance novels, Northanger Abbey . Her and her beloved older sister Cassandra, also in her late twenties, arrive at Steventon Rectory, Hampshire, to spend Christmas with her brother James and his family. While there, the sisters’ accept an invitation to visit Manydown Park, the wealthy estate of their longtime family friends, Alethea and Catherine Biggs. During their visit, Jane is thrown together with the acerbic and dry Harris Biggs-Withers, recently graduated from Worcester College, Oxford. Despite their vast differences, Harris and Jane are drawn together. Jane then finds herself presented with a choice, a singular opportunity, one that could change the course of her and her family's life.
